Paige Ryter–Author Introduction

My name’s Paige Ryter…well my pen name is Paige Ryter (page writer…get it?). I like to write stories that are either somewhat emotional to pull at your heartstrings, or are fun to read. All of my stories end with a ‘happily ever after’ moment and you’ll be sure the hero and heroine will be together for years to come. My first sale will come out with Red Rose Publishing, probably before Christmas, and is entitled ‘Three Minutes Before Christmas.’ You can see the blurb for it at www.paigeryter.com/books.html

I have a few hobbies, but definitely not cooking. Let me tell you a bit about my cooking ‘adventures.’ When we lived in Kansas, my kids would know dinner was done when the smoke detector would go off…along with all the neighbors on our street. No kidding. I’m no chef, but I can make a mean hamburger helper and a couple of other things. My three children (now teenagers) learned early how to make themselves a bowl of cereal just to survive. We have ‘cereal nights’ where you get your own meal. My children cheer when they hear that, because they can eat something edible. My middle child (a redheaded ‘temper laden’ fifteen-year-old girl) is my chef. She can cook. She does something really cool…she actually reads the recipe and follows the directions. Not me. I stray. A lot. It makes life more…uh…interesting.

The other day, I had a rough cooking day. I burned iced tea (you know, sweet tea with water, sugar, tea bags on the stove), accidentally letting it boil for an HOUR on the stove, then burned leftover pizza in the oven for lunch. My middle child emailed my husband at work and BEGGED him not to let me cook for dinner (she didn’t volunteer to make food…no way…). She BEGGED him to take us to McDonald’s instead, rather than have me burn down the house.

So hobbies, you ask? Uh, not cooking. I can make ice. That’s about it–and that’s iffy at best.

LOL–I loved your intro and I never picked up on your clever pen name! Cool. I must tell you that I find people who can’t cook, simply ENDEARING. It really makes a craft-challenged, talentless person like myself smile. I’m afraid the only things I can do are the everyday mundane like cooking and cleaning…so you must be a fabulous talented writer among other things.

And three cheers for Cereal Night. Cereal is one of life’s staples. When all else fails, there’s always delicious sweet crunchy cereal, and nobody has to cook at all!

  2. Lindsay Townsend Says:

Wonderful intro, Paige! What a clever pen name! I like the sound of your fiction very much - I’m all for heart-tugging and HEA!

Cereal Night sounds fun. Back in my student days I used to have a cornflakes night.

  3. Sylvie Kaye Says:

Page writer…very cleaver! I sometimes ‘cook’ salad…lol! Not really but it’s my hint to hubby that I’m not cooking tonight.

These are great entries! Cooking salad…I HAVE to try that one! My middle child tells my husband we’re having chili and fishsticks for dinner…he hates both of those. That’s the code word for ‘we’re going out to eat, or she’s making those things’…and he caves. He’s such a pushover!

Thank you all for commenting! And yes on the cereal!

  5. Maryann Miller Says:

LOL, Paige. I’ve destroyed a few dinners in my time. When microwaves first came out I decided to try to do the bulk of my dinner cooking there. After I made “meatloaf jerky” my kids burned my microwave cookbook.

  6. Franny Armstrong - ParaNovelGirl Says:

Ah, Paige, you crack me up!

Cooking isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, after all, it’s only for eating meals anyway. If buying dinner gives you that extra hour or so to keep on writing, then go for it!

My fire alarm seems to go off a lot more these days since I became a fulltime author. LOL I usually yell “Dinner’s Ready”.

No one comes running though. Not sure if that’s because of the food, or that they’re getting used to my meals which aren’t so good anymore.

    Happy Writing

I’m chuckling at your cooking experiences! It’s strange: earlier today I told a writer friend having trouble with his muse that anyone who writes like he does owes it to write! Then I come read this.

Secret … I cook well. I can throw whatever I have here together in a way that makes it seems I went shopping after planning the meal when the reality is that it was last-minute without too much thought and little time. But, I don’t LIKE to cook and say my favorite meal is whatever someone else makes. Does that make me a touch hypocritical?

  8. Sue Perkins Says:

Paige your blogpost was hilarious. Probably not hilarious to live through but it’s the way you write it. Great pen name too.

  9. Stephanie Burkhart Says:

Paige, thanks for your sharing your cooking experiences. One of the things I like to do is cook with my boys. Andrew likes baking cakes and cookies. Joe is just getting into cooking since he’s turning 3. He likes to watch the microwave spin around and then open it. Your book sounds like a nice holiday read.

Cute post Paige! Where did you find the great pic to go with it!! I’m with you - cooking is NOT my hobby…but reading is!

  11. Paige Ryter Says:

You guys are the BEST! I really needed this pick-me-up and I’m just laughing at…I mean WITH…everyone who’s as good a cook as I am. Thank you all.

As for the children cooking, start them early. That’s what I did with my kids, out of necessity to live. HA!

Thank you all for posting! You’re definitely the BEST!!!

  12. Donna Marie Rogers Says:

Ah, Paige, you crack me up…LOL You’ve cooked some pretty good things over the years, but yeah, you never did care to read the recipes. I make sun tea, and more than once I’ve forgotten about it and left it out on the porch overnight, so don’t feel too bad. What you are is a great wife & mother, and an amazingly prolific writer. Can’t wait for Three Minutes Before Christmas to release!!

  13. Ron Berry Says:

Paige Ryter is a good id. I’m the ‘other’ writer, as in the uncola I am unwriter.
I write humor and non fiction. I’m going to be presenting humor at the museitup conference again this year.

Unfortunately I can cook. My wife is a cook and my mother was a castering cook. I bake and come up with some odd changes to recipes.

  14. LaVerne Thompson Says:

Love your pen name. Great post. You had me cracking up.

  15. Zequeatta Jaques Says:

Hey, Paige, I love your pen name. I had just picked up on it the other day! I can so relate to your cooking, problems. Have burned tea myself.

  16. Paige Ryter Says:

Oh man…I keep reading these and just laugh! Meatloaf jerky…I’m still laughing at that one! And Zequetta…I’m not alone! YAY!!!!!!!

    Thank you all!
